Coconut oil has long been our friend. Whether using it for cooking or as a beauty treatment, the possibilities are pretty much endless. But what else can the miracle oil do? We caught up with nutritionist Keri Glassman, MS, RD, for the Vita Coco Coconut Oil launch (yes, your favorite coconut water is now lending its prowess to oil!) to find out some new ways to use that tub.
1. Coconut Oil Face Mask

This mask will leave your skin healthy and glowing!
1 tablespoon of coconut oil
1 tablespoon of honey
½ teaspoon of avocado
1 tablespoon of mashed banana.
Blend together and apply all over face avoiding the eyes. After 10 minutes wash off with normal face wash.
2. Coconut Body Scrub

This body scrub will get your skin smooth and soft.
1/3 cup warm water
1/4 cup oatmeal
1 tablespoon coconut oil
Place oatmeal in a bowl and add warm water to make into a paste. Add coconut oil and stir well. Scrub over skin and leave on for about 10 minutes, then rinse off!
3. Coconut Sun Soother

Too much time in the sun? Try this remedy.
1 aloe vera leaf
2-3 tablespoons coconut oil
To get the gel from the aloe leaf, Glassman removes the hard spine outlining the leaf. Then, remove the rind (the hard outer shell), which then exposes a clear gel substance which you can filet out. (Make sure to avoid the yellow substance that lies below the gel as it can be irritating to the skin.)
Add the gel to the coconut oil and blend. It makes a creamy moisturizer that you can apply from head to toe.
4. Hair Mask
Try coating your hair in coconut oil as a hair mask! Your hair will feel smooth and soft – and it definitely helps with split ends.
5. Delish Cocoa
Use 1 teaspoon in hot cocoa to make it extra rich and creamy!
6. Healthy Eating
Use it to sauté fish, veggies, or just about anything. Skip the olive oil and opt for the coconut oil! It has a high smoking point, which means the good fats will stay intact even after it is heated on a high heat!
7. Snack Attack
Melt 1 teaspoon and toss into popcorn with a little sea salt for a great snack.
8. Morning Start
For an energy boost in the morning use 1 teaspoon in your morning tea or coffee to be sure your stomach isn’t growling at 10am!
9. Baking Saver
Next time you are baking, nix the canola or vegetable oil and replace with coconut oil! It’s not only healthier but more flavorful!
