Eva Longoria wowed us all when she debuted her first ever New York Fashion Week collection on September 13. The affordable ready-to-wear line, which was part of Kia STYLE360’s show, presented the Spring/Summer 2018 line of her Eva Longoria Collection.
While for some celebrities creating a fashion brand simply means putting their name on the label, the Telenovela star on the other hand, always understood the hard work and dedication that was needed to create a genuine collection. "I always knew I wanted to be in the fashion industry with a line of my own. I was just waiting for the right partners and the right moment and the dedication that I could put towards it. It is a full-time job. I don't think I could've done this while I was on Desperate Housewives. It's just so much work. There are constant design, marketing, and production meetings. I enjoyed every aspect of it because it just has been an obsession of mine for a very long time to be able to put this together," the actress, who began sewing at the age of 7, told Latina.
Longoria's passion for fashion was reflective in the collection, which featured an assortment of jackets, tops, jumpsuits, and pants -- including a pair of floral-patterned bottoms that were to die for.
The proud Mexican-American star also admitted she kept her Latin heritage in the back of her mind as inspiration when designing her line. "Being Latina, I gravitate towards color. I really like color. I always try to infuse that fun vibrant vibe of my culture into the textiles, into the print, and into the colors. For me, it's who I am so it's automatically going to come out in the clothes," Longoria explained.
As for her favorite piece from the collection, Longoria couldn't possibly choose! The actress-turned-fashion mogul refers to herself as a 'jean connoisseur,' did reveal it was important to her to make sure all the denim pieces were comfortable and had a special stretch to fit everybody. "This spring line is particularly rooted in denim. It's really grounded by the denim story. What I love about my denim is we have amazing washes, hand details, and athletic strip going down the sides. But the greatest thing about my denim is the technology behind the denim. I want my denim to act like a Spanx but not feel like one," the 42-year-old said. "I want it to feel comfortable. I want it to feel like velvet against the skin. The technology we have in our denim is power-scope and four-way stretch. It's very rare. I feel like I'm a jean connoisseur. I understand what I want my jeans to do and I think women want it to do the same."
The Texas-born star's NYFW show also featured a new athleisure line called #SETLIFE, inspired by her life behind the camera. "[#SETLIFE] was born from my life on set. As I got behind producing and directing, I wanted to not look sloppy just because I wasn't in hair and makeup in front of the camera. I was wearing sweats, which is kind of like the getting down and dirty look behind the camera, but I still wanted to look chic," she said. "I felt like a boss lady, so I wanted to look like one and so I created #SETLIFE which is a very sophisticated sporty line that is designed for women who do it all. The women who multitask, who need to go pick up their kid, who needs to go to the office, who needs to run to the grocery store, who needs to go to her family house, but wants to look good doing it. That's what #SETLIFE is really about."
While for some women shopping can be used as a form of therapy, for many us Latinas who come in different shapes and sizes, it's a struggle we can all relate to. The Mexican Belleza said she drew from her own experiences being a petite woman when designing a line that would flatter everyone. "My line actually caters to all women. We have a very broad size range. We really accommodate all sizes of women and I really think of all women. I'm petite so I created some designs for the shorter women. I have friends of mine that are bigger or taller, and we created some pieces for that women as well," she said.
