Bruno Mars’ "Finesse" was already our second favorite song on 24K Magic (right after the title song), but then he invited our favorite Bronx rapper, Cardi B, to hop on the remix to bless the track with additional sabor. And when the video dropped, we saw it was inspired by (and dedicated to) to old school fan favorite In Living Color, created by Keenan Ivory Wayans.
Bruno tweeted that In Living Color was “one of his favorite TV shows of all time” and even thanked Fox and Wayans. Let’s not forget that this comedy launched many careers, Rosie Perez, Jamie Foxx, Jim Carrey and J. Lo. In response to the video, Jenny also tweeted, #onceaflygirlalwaysaflygirl. Our timelines went crazy because of course the powers that be who put that joint together went full 90s with the costumes, the set dancing, and the energy. It was pure pageantry, right?
I met cardi B at 3 am after my show in LA backstage where we recorded her verse for Finesse. She walked in the room and she was everything I’d hope she’d be. Never change cardi! Don’t let this crazy music business change who you are. You posses something that can’t be taught. You’re a true star. Thank you for putting your energy and love all over this record and video. I hope you feel better soon because we got some celebrating to do. Everyone show ya love for the one and only CARDI B! #Finesse
On January 4, Bruno posted an IG picture with Cardi B and described what it was like meeting the “trap Selena.” He said the fire spitter was “everything I’d hope she’d be.” Then the “Finesse” singer bragged about her gifts saying you “possess something that cannot be taught. You’re a true star.”
Thanks for saying that Bruno, but we already knew it.
